A variation of the Leftover dish towel. I was playing around one evening and came up with this pattern. It reminds me of the waffle stitch that is so popular with beginning sock knitters that I dubbed it the waffle towel. This looks great in leftovers but if you want the stitch pattern to show up more, a solid color would be the way to go.

Waffle Dish Towel pattern

Stitch pattern: 
Rows 1 and 2:  Knit across 

Row 3: P2, K2 across.

Row 4: K2, P2 across

Repeat these 4 rows for pattern

 
Needle size: US 8 (5mm)
2 half skeins of worsted weight cotton yarn or 1 skein 
if making in a solid color.
 
Cast on 50 stitches
Beginning with Row 1, work pattern for 10 repeats. 
Then work Row 3 and 4 one more time. (optional)
Work pattern for 9 more repeats. 
Repeat Rows 1 and 2 again.             
Shape top:
Row 1: K2 tog all the way across (25 sts)
Row 2: Knit
Row 3: K2tog 6 times, K1, K2tog 6 times (13 sts)
Knit 30 rows even.
Row 34: Knit 5, K2tog, YO, Knit 6. 
Row 35: Knit across
Row 36: K2tog, K9, K2tog (11 sts)
Row 37: Knit 
Row 38: K2tog, K7, K2tog (9 sts)
Row 39: Knit
Row 40: K2tog, K5, K2tog. (7sts)
Row 41: Bind off
Work in ends. Fold over and decide where you want a button, 
the YO is the buttonhole. Sew on a button.
