Lacy Zigzag Hand Towel

Size 7 needles

One ball cotton yarn

Abbreviations used:

K= knit

Sl = slip

YO= yarn over

K2tog= knit 2 stitches together

 

Cast on 45 stitches (39sts if making a face cloth)

Knit 4 rows for bottom border.

 

Row 1: (right side) K4, *Sl 1, K1, psso, K2, YO, K2; 

 repeat from * to last stitch, then K5

 

Row 2: K4, Purl across to last 4 sts., K4

 

Row 3-6: Repeat Rows 1 and 2 twice

 

Row 7: K7, *YO, K2, K2tog, K2; repeat from *  to last 8 stitches then YO, K2, K2 tog, K4

 

Row 8: Purl across

 

Row 9-12: Repeat Rows 7 and 8 twice

 

Repeat these 12 Rows 4 more times for towel,  

3 more times for face cloth.

Knit 4 rows for top border. (bind off face cloth)

 

Top shaping:

Row 53: K!, K2tog across.  (23 stitches)

Row 54: Knit

Row 55: K2 tog across to last stitch, K1  (12 stitches)

Knit back and forth for 30 rows.

 

Row 86: K2tog, K to last 2 stitches, K2tog (10 stitches)

Row 87: Knit

Row 88: K3, K2tog, YO, K5.  (button hole made)

Row:89 and 90: K2 tog, K to last 2 stitches, K2tog. (8 and 6 stitches respectively.)

Bind off and work in ends.  Sew button on towel in desired position.

 

Note: To make a matching washcloth bind off after knitting the 4 rows for the top border.  Cloth will measure 10” X 10”
